Dr. James K. Kurata, O.D.

Dr. James K. Kurata was born and raised in southern California. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Whittier College in 1977, he received a Bachelor of Science in Ocular Science and a Doctor of Optometry in 1984 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Kurata attributes his desire to pursue optometry to his older brothers: the oldest, an optometrist, and the second oldest, an ophthalmologist at East West Eye Institute, both with whom he maintains close, personal and professional relationships.
When he was younger, Dr. Kurata was an avid surfer and sports car enthusiast, participating in SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) racing events. He still maintains an active lifestyle, enjoying woodworking and playing a round of golf with his wife, Kathy, a nationally ranked amateur golfer.
Dr. Kurata is currently a member of both the American Optometric Association and California Optometric Association.
