During a comprehensive eye exam, here are some things you can expect to happen:
- Visual acuities - your doctor will test your vision with an eye chart to determine clarity of vision
- Refraction - measures your eyes to see if a prescription is needed
- Ocular health evaluation - overall general eye health checkup to make sure your eyes are healthy
- Dilation - eyedrops are used to help widen the pupil so the doctor can check the back of your eye for health
- Retinal photos (optional) - photos can be taken of the back of your eyes to check the health and also to keep on file to check for changes year after year
- Glaucoma screening - dilation of your eyes can help better screen for signs of glaucoma by observing your optic nerve, retina and macula for signs of damage or unusual changes
- Peripheral vision testing - this test can help identify loss of peripheral vision that can be a symptom of an underlying vision issue
- Contact lens fittings and evaluations (optional) - if you're interested in wearing contact lenses, our doctors can it and help guide you on the different types of lenses available based on your unique needs
